The pewter canteen slid back within his cloak along its narrow strap to rest against his hip. Wiping the back of his hand against the brambly, red-grey beard around his mouth, Liam trudged on with a long mosowood spear, thumping the ground between strides. It was an adequate tool for killing, but he preferred more intimate instruments.

The spears they carried were meant for merrier undertakings; soon to be used for the upcoming Harvestfeast celebrations where they would be wielded by adept and novice hands alike in the highly-favoured spear-fishing challenge. No one could have guessed they would be put to this purpose.

TSH Chapter OneONE

A sound like stone dragging on wood shattered his contemplation before echoing into obscurity. From his high vantage, Cole noticed a swarm of dark birds to the west taking wing against the grey sky as though with a shared mind.

He remained still, sitting upon the thick, twisted branch of a great oak, waiting for the sound to come again. When it didn't he dismissed it and returned to his thoughts and to the old carving in the branch which was his perch.

Another limb of the tree contorted close enough behind him so that he could lean against it. He found no discomfort in the coarse bark against his back.

Alastyr ignored the naked visitor who stood silent in his study. It was near dusk and the little light that remained slowly drained through small windows set high in stone walls. Detail in woodwork, plaster and stone became flat. Aged tomes and scripts flaunted upon tall shelves were reduced to vague, huddling shapes. What was clear in the failing light, however, was the cold purpose in the visitor's too-bright eyes.

I think I could have done better on a few parts, but I'm still learning.
I find there are a few challenges when translating comic line art to semi-real colour, so I took a couple liberties with it that are probably noticeable when looking at the original.
